Kit of the American P-51B Mustang fighter in 1:72 scale, that is, the version with the fuselage spine carried back to the tail and a framed cockpit canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51B Mustang is an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War. It differs from the first Mustangs in its powerplant: it received the license-built liquid-cooled V12 Merlin with a two-stage supercharger, which gave the aircraft its performance back at high altitude. Only then did the Mustang become an escort fighter able to go with the bomber formations deep over the European mainland. The B version still has the fuselage spine carried back to the tail surfaces and a cockpit with a framed canopy, so the view to the rear is limited; the teardrop canopy came only with the later version. The radiator sits in a deep duct under the fuselage behind the cockpit.
In 1:72 scale the finished model comes out at a span of just under 16 cm and a length of around 14 cm. It is therefore a smaller model, where the result is decided by clean work on the landing gear, on the cockpit canopy and on the joint between the cooling duct and the fuselage.
The aircraft stands on a tail wheel, so no nose weight is needed. Dry-fit the assembly, above all where the cooling duct meets the fuselage, since that seam is hard to fill. It pays to mask the framed canopy before spraying rather than after the paint has dried. A polished metal finish tolerates only a perfectly smooth base, so do not underestimate the sanding.
Paints, glue and filler are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
