The Eduard 1:72 P-61C photo-etched set refines the interior of a model of the Black Widow night fighter. Thin metal parts replace the simplified plastic of the kit.

This is a photo-etched accessory, not an aircraft kit. The set is intended for a model of the P-61C Black Widow night fighter in 1:72 scale and concentrates on the cockpit and the interior. In this small scale injection-molded plastic has limits that nothing can be done about, because every part has to be thick enough to be drawn from the mold. Photo-etched metal a few tenths of a millimeter thick gets around that limit.
The set adds thin panels, consoles and small cockpit details that the kit renders only as suggested relief or leaves out entirely. On a large twin-boom night fighter with extensive canopy glazing the interior is clearly visible from above, so the improvement shows even in this scale. Sets of this kind are usually designed to be usable without extensive surgery on the plastic.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface and sand down the tab that is left. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or over the edge of a metal ruler; on the smallest parts the tip of the scalpel helps. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in the smallest possible amount. Degrease the metal before painting and use a good primer. Bring out the detail with a dark wash and a dry brush. Work over a light-colored surface, because small parts in 1:72 scale are very hard to find again.
This is an accessory set, not an aircraft model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
