The Polski Fiat 508 was a licensed version of the Italian Fiat 508, built by Polish works from the 1930s on. The III designation corresponds to the third production batch. It was a small passenger car with an inline four-cylinder engine, simple to build and to maintain, and precisely for that reason the Polish army took it over in considerable numbers as a light liaison and staff vehicle. It was counted on in that role in the campaign of 1939 as well, and for modelers it serves as a rewarding companion to military scenes from the start of the war.
A kit in 1:72 scale, that is in the usual size for small ground vehicles. The real subject was small, so the finished model comes out at roughly five centimeters and takes up less shelf space than most tanks in the same scale. How many parts the package holds and what marking options it offers are given in the manufacturer's instructions; read them right at the start, because with small vehicles the order of the steps tends to be tighter than with large models.
In this scale the parts really are tiny. Work with tweezers over a mat with raised edges, so that a part that springs away is not lost, and dose the glue with the tip of a tool rather than from the tube. Leave the glazing and the finest fittings until the end, so that you do not tear them off while handling the model. Lay the paint on in thin coats, or it will swamp the fine surface detail. On the lower parts of the bodywork and on the fenders it pays to work with dust and mud, because that is what settles a small vehicle into the terrain.
