An accessory for building dioramas of laser-cut wood in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a vehicle kit but a scenery element: once assembled and painted you build from it a continuous board fence that bounds a plot, a yard or a farm service area in a scene. Thin wood in a natural shade keeps its own grain even after toning, which in the small 1:72 scale decides how credible it looks.
The boards are wider, so there are fewer vertical joints and the fence has a calmer, coarser rhythm. It comes across as fencing built more cheaply and quickly — typical of farm yards, temporary enclosures of storage areas or buildings on the outskirts. The version with narrower boards from the same range looks finer and more careful instead. The two work well side by side if you want to suggest in a scene that the fence grew gradually and out of various materials.
Break the parts carefully out of the sheet and true the marks left by cutting with fine abrasive paper. Glue with PVA wood glue, and with thin cyanoacrylate on small joints. Deal with the painting by toning — a wood stain, a glaze or heavily thinned acrylic preserve the texture, whereas an opaque coat smooths it away. With wide boards it works well when each of them gets a slightly different shade, as though they came from different pieces of timber. A gray wash at the foot of the fence suggests rising damp. Work sparingly with water and let the finished fence dry weighted down on a flat surface.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a laser-cut wooden part. The glue, the paints and any further material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
