The resin accessory set 1:72 PT-579/588 Engine Compartment Ventilation from Special Navy replaces the engine compartment ventilation of an American torpedo boat. It is not a model of the boat but a detail accessory for one.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Special Navy is an accessory, not a kit of the whole vessel. It deals with a single but very visible deck assembly of the PT-579/588 torpedo boat in 1:72 scale: the engine compartment ventilation. Resin castings have crisper edges and finer detail than injection-molded plastic can manage, so they suit anywhere the part is in plain view on a model.
PT-579 and PT-588 belonged to the American patrol torpedo boats of late wartime production. They were small, lightly built and very fast craft with gasoline engines that needed to shed a considerable amount of heat from the engine compartment. That is exactly why the intake and exhaust vents on the decks of these boats are so prominent, and why it pays to work them up on a model.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to get rid of the remains of mold release agent, as otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife; do not snap them. Sanding should always be done wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust does not belong in your lungs. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Apply a primer before painting, as paint holds poorly on resin without one. Bring the openings of the vents out with a dark shade or a wash, so that they look deep.
This is an accessory set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
