A set of pre-cut masking templates for the glazing of a model of the two-seat trainer version of the Swedish SAAB Viggen jet, designated SK-37, in 1:72 scale. Compared with the single-seat versions this machine has a considerably longer glazed section with two separate cockpits, so there are more frames and the difference between masking by hand and with pre-cut masks shows all the more. The masks are transferred from the backing film, pressed against the frames and taken off after spraying. The shapes are based on the Special Hobby and Tarangus kits.
The SK-37 was created as a training version of the Viggen for converting pilots onto the type. The rear cockpit for the instructor is set higher so that he has a view forward, which brings with it the characteristic stepped silhouette of the glazing and a modification of the rear fuselage. The basic aerodynamic layout with a canard foreplane and a delta wing remained the same as on the single-seat versions. A model of the two-seat variant therefore looks different at first glance, even though it shares most of the structure.
Degrease the glazing and check that the masks match the parts of your model. With a two-seat canopy, sort the templates in advance according to which cockpit they belong to and you will save yourself searching during the work. Press the edges down thoroughly, because paint runs in most easily at the stepped transition between the cockpits. Spray thin coats and take the masks off shortly after they have set, while the paint has not fully cured.
