An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Tupolev Tu-2 twin-engined bomber in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. This model from the easy-build range has the fuselage laid out as an upper and a lower assembly with the wing molded in. The box holds engraved surface lines, a simple interior, the landing gear, one-piece three-blade propellers with separate spinners and several clear parts for the glazing of the cockpit and the gun positions.

The real subject

The Tu-2 was a fast Soviet twin-engined bomber that entered service during the Second World War and stayed in production after it. It was versatile: besides conventional bombing it served as a torpedo bomber, as a reconnaissance machine and as a heavy fighter. It was valued for its decent speed, range and bomb load, and it was among the better machines of its class on the Eastern Front.

Building and painting tips

Secure the joints with liquid cement for plastic. Mask the glazing of the cockpit and the gun positions before painting. A primer filler will bring out the engraving. An airbrush suits the Soviet camouflage, and the mud and dust effects can be brought together with washes and pigments.
