Cut masking shapes for the cockpit canopy of the most numerous Merlin-engined version of the British fighter, 1:72 scale. Covering from outside.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the Focke-Wulf fighter with a radial engine appeared over the Channel, the British squadrons lost their advantage at altitude practically overnight. The solution had to come quickly, so the designers took the proven airframe of the fifth version and put a Merlin with a two-stage supercharger into it. That produced the Mk IX, the most numerously built variant of the whole family: you will recognize it by the longer nose, the two sets of exhausts and the four-blade propeller. In performance at great altitudes it matched its opponent at a stroke and from 1942 it formed the backbone of daylight fighter operations.
The cockpit of this version has a divided windscreen with thick armored glass and a sliding section with several frames. Masking by hand calls for patience here, because the frames are thin and in 1:72 scale very short. Pre-cut shapes remove the problem. The target model is the kit by the brand Sword. The covering concerns the outer surface; inside the pane stays open. Anyone building a machine with the cockpit slid open will appreciate that the sliding section can be masked and painted separately from the fuselage and only then seated in its final position.
We recommend applying the windscreen first, because the remaining parts line up well against it. Transfer the small shapes with a moistened tip of tweezers so that they do not stick where they should not. Apply the paint in two passes and take the masking off while the coat is still freshly dried. The package holds masking material only and the model itself is sold separately.
