This resin set of the Quickboost brand from the Czech manufacturer Aires brings faithfully cast underwing radiators for a model of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the simplified plastic parts with a casting with a fine matrix and more deeply marked cooling air intakes.

The real subject

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV was a late fighter version of the legendary aircraft, powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. The potent power plant called for effective cooling, which was handled by the characteristic tunnel radiators placed under the wings. The aircraft served at the close of the Second World War as a high-altitude interceptor.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that any mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), not with plastic cement. Try the fit dry before painting; resin may need a little cleaning up.
