A collector's model of the German Sturmgeschütz III assault gun in the Ausf. F version in 1:72 scale, finished in the markings of Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 210 on the Eastern Front in 1942. It is not a kit: the model arrives from the factory assembled, painted and marked, so you need no glue, paints or decals. Finished models of this class are built mostly from plastic with additional parts and are meant for collectors who want to display a vehicle at once beside the other pieces of a collection in the same scale.
The Ausf. F version of 1942 marked a turning point in the development of the whole Sturmgeschütz III series. The earlier variants carried a short 75 mm howitzer intended for the direct support of infantry, whereas the Ausf. F received a long gun barrel of the same caliber with a considerably higher muzzle velocity. That turned a support gun into an effective tank destroyer, which matched the situation on the Eastern Front, where German units were running into well-armored Soviet types. The vehicle was built on the proven chassis of the Panzer III medium tank, its weapon was mounted in a fixed casemate with no rotating turret and, thanks to its low silhouette, it was easy to conceal in the field and in defensive positions. Assault guns came under the artillery rather than the tank arm and were organized into independent battalions.
Hold a finished model by the hull so that no fingerprints are left on the painted surface; dust is best removed with a soft brush. Collectors who want to individualize the vehicle can carefully add dust pigments to the running gear and a fine dark wash into the engraved lines and rivets. Before any such work, try the effect on a hidden area, as the factory paint is thin and aggressive thinners could attack it.
The model is supplied finished, assembled and painted. It is not a kit: glue, paints and decals are neither needed nor included.
