An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier torpedo bomber TBF/TBM-1C Avenger in 1:72 scale from Hobby 2000. The package combines quality plastic parts originating from Hasegawa with masks for the glazing and quality decals for three color schemes.
The Grumman TBF Avenger was a three-seat carrier torpedo bomber of the US Navy in the Second World War; its license-built copies from the General Motors car company carried the designation TBM. A rugged machine with a roomy bomb bay and a dorsal defensive turret, it became the main carrier of torpedoes and bombs on the decks of American aircraft carriers in the Pacific and took part in a number of key naval battles.
The plastic from Hasegawa is among the better kind, so the build is rewarding; even so it pays to try the fit of the fuselage dry. Glue the plastic with a thin modeling cement, stick the masks supplied onto the framed greenhouse canopy and the turret, unify the base with a primer and lay the paint on with an airbrush. The naval schemes are marked by a three-tone blue-gray camouflage: soften the transitions and lighten the upper surfaces gently; wear on the deck can be suggested with a wash and light chipping of the paint on the leading edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
