An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Vauxhall D-type ambulance in the Red Cross version in 1:72 scale from Roden. It is a small but nicely broken-down model of a period automobile; the finished car is only small, so it suits a display case and a First World War diorama alike.
The Vauxhall D-type was a British automobile built from 1912; over fifteen hundred cars were made in all. It was used mainly as a staff car, but some examples were converted for medical service and committed as ambulances on the Western Front. In the version with Red Cross markings it carried the wounded away from the front line area; its light construction suited the muddy and broken roads near the battlefield too.
Given the small dimensions, work with a sharp knife, tweezers and a small amount of thin plastic cement. Paint the small parts and the interior before assembly. We recommend a primer and applying the shades with a fine brush or an airbrush; the Red Cross markings are usually handled by decals, which should be applied onto a smooth varnish. A weathered look comes from fine highlighting of the detail with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
