Another package from the range of non-rigid K-class airships in 1:720 scale. According to the name this variant is aimed at machines deployed to protect ship formations and gives three particular airships. The model will complete a collection beside the early production form and beside a package with special markings, so a whole series can be put on a shelf in a single ratio. The dimensions of the finished model are around ten centimeters.
The K-class airships held their shape through the overpressure of the gas in the envelope and carried a gondola with the crew and with the power units underneath. The US Navy deployed them mainly to patrol over coastal waters and to escort ship convoys, where their ability to stay in the air for many hours and to fly slowly low over the surface came into its own. The crew could watch the water for a long time and keep in contact with the ships they escorted, which for this service mattered more than speed. The machines were modified step by step during their service, so individual examples differ in detail.
The key is again a seamless envelope. After gluing, let the filler cure thoroughly and only then sand, otherwise the seam will reappear after a few days. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a uniform base coat, which will reveal any remaining unevenness. Choose a matte paint and spray it in crossed passes, so that no streaks are created. Clean the burrs off the fine parts of the gondola and the stabilizing surfaces with a small file and attach them with super glue or with very thin plastic cement and a minimum of material. Settle the decals with the numbers on a glossy surface and, once dry, seal them with a matte overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
