A small injection-molded kit of the Japanese Type 97 Chi-Ha Kai medium tank in 1:76 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. The model comes as a set of plastic parts on sprues, unassembled and unpainted. The 1:76 scale is the classic braille scale for ground equipment: the finished model takes up only a few centimeters on a shelf, so a whole group of vehicles side by side fits into a collection. The particular number of parts, the contents of the sprues and the extent of the decal sheet are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a Japanese medium tank from the Second World War period. The designation Chi-Ha Kai, also known as Shinhoto Chi-Ha, meaning with a new turret, belongs to the later upgraded version, which received a larger welded turret with a more effective 47 mm gun in place of the original short 57 mm weapon. The vehicle had an air-cooled diesel engine and the suspension typical of the Japanese school of design, with coil springs running along the hull. The Chi-Ha Kai became the most widespread version of the type and served until the end of the war.
Cut the parts from the sprue with side nippers and level the remains of the gates with a file or a scalpel; at small scales every untreated remnant of a gate shows badly. Glue with thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joint. Assemble and paint the running gear and the underside of the hull before you close up the superstructure. It is practical to paint the tracks and the road wheels separately from the hull. After the base coat over a primer, a dark wash into the pressings and the rivets, dry-brushing of the edges and finally dust pigments on the lower areas suggest themselves; at this scale the weathering accounts for most of the final impression.
