About product

Yellow heat-shrink tube 2.5 mm from Top Studio

This is a modeling material, not a kit. Tube 2.5 mm in diameter is slipped onto a wire or a hose and once heated it draws down around it into a firm sleeve. On a model, clamps, end fittings of routing or bands tying a wiring bundle together arise from it, the small things that decide whether an engine bay looks alive or empty.

What it is for on a motorcycle model

Yellow is the most conspicuous of the whole color range, and that is precisely why it suits places where a sleeve is to mark something, not just to reinforce it. In a wiring bundle it sets one particular branch apart from the others, so that even on a finished model it can be told where the ignition and where the signal wire runs. It comes into its own on machines with a yellow or a black and yellow racing livery as well, where a color accent on the routing matches the rest of the machine. The 2.5 mm diameter is the largest in the manufacturer's range, so it will take a thicker hose or a whole gathered bundle too, not just a single thin wire.

Usage tips

Cut it at a right angle to the axis with a new scalpel, so that the end stays clean, as on a light color every crushed spot shows more than on a dark one. Before shrinking, try on an offcut how much the diameter draws down, so that you know what to expect on the model. Apply the heat away from the model or at a safe distance from painted areas; do not put the tip of a soldering iron against it, but heat it from a distance. Yellow tube stands only a slight dirtying with pigment, otherwise it loses the signal effect it is on the model for. If you need only a sleeve without the heat load, fit the ring dry and secure it with a drop of super glue.

Who it is for

  • Modelers who set the individual circuits of routing apart on a motorcycle or a car
  • Builders of machines with a yellow or a black and yellow racing livery
  • Those who address thicker hoses and gathered wiring bundles
  • Suitable for the less experienced too, although working with heat calls for care

This is a modeling material, not a kit. While shrinking, work at a distance from painted areas and in a well-ventilated room.

FAQ

It is the most conspicuous of the color range, so it suits places where a sleeve is to set a particular branch of routing apart from the rest of the bundle, not just to reinforce it.

Yes. You fit the ring dry and secure it with a drop of super glue. Shrunk tube holds its shape by itself, though, and follows the outline of the hose better.

The 2.5 mm diameter is the largest in the manufacturer's range, so it will manage thicker hoses and gathered bundles. For a single thin wire a narrower variant is more suitable.

It does, but carefully. On yellow, a heavy dirtying with pigment wipes out precisely the signal effect it is used for.
