26th Waffen Grenadier Division Of The SS (2nd Hungarian) Plaque 40mm is a diorama plaque relating to the second Hungarian grenadier division. It is an accessory for the base of a scene, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a diorama accessory from Dynamo-Models, not a model of equipment. The plaque relates to the unit from the name and serves as a fixed nameplate for a scene or a display case. The size of 40 mm follows directly from the name of the product. The material, the number of pieces in the package and whether the plaque has a surface finish are given on the box.
The parenthesis 2nd Hungarian in the name is not accidental: with divisions brought up to strength from the non-German population, the sequence within the given nationality was commonly put after the name. This plaque therefore refers to the second Hungarian unit of this type, whereas the first bears the sequence number 25. The division with the number 26 was coming into being at the turn of 1944 and 1945 and, like other late formations, struggled with a shortage of armament and of time for training. The designation Waffen Grenadier Division means an infantry unit.
Because the parenthesis in the name distinguishes two similarly named units, the plaque is useful precisely where the assignment of a scene is to be unambiguous and impossible to confuse. On a plinth, place it where the viewer's eye falls before it reaches the model, that is on the front edge. Level the area before gluing, otherwise the plaque will seat with only part of itself and the gap will show. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in spots, so that it does not wick into the relief, where it would leave glossy marks.
