Premium conifers, 2 pieces, roughly 7.5 to 10 cm tall

The premium range of trees differs from bulk packages in the degree of detail. While simpler trees for a background have a simplified shape, a premium piece is finished so as to hold up even when viewed from immediate proximity, that is, beside a figure, on a display base or in the foreground of a layout. According to the name, the package contains two pieces approximately 7.5 to 10 cm tall; the original American figure of three to four inches is converted here.

Use

• Set the tree into a drilled hole and secure it with PVA or cyanoacrylate glue.
• Place it where the scene is meant to draw attention: by a road, a building or the main model.
• Work the foot of the trunk into the terrain with scatter, root flares and fallen needles.
• Do not plant the two pieces symmetrically or at the same height of view.

Tips for a faithful result

With a tree examined in detail, the trunk and the transition into the terrain decide the result. A light dry brush in a lighter shade brings the trunk to life by accenting the structure of the bark, while a dark wash in the lower part anchors the tree optically. It is a good idea to lighten the crown slightly from the side the light falls on the scene from. If you are adding the tree to growth that is already finished, unify the tone of the crowns with a light overspray from a greater distance.
