A printed set of cattails

A set of plants with the characteristic spike on the stem, that is cattails as they grow on the banks of ponds and in wetlands. The parts are made by three-dimensional printing in resin and the maker carries them for a scale around one forty-eighth. The plants come in several sizes, so a dense stand as well as sparsely scattered single stems can be built from them.

Building and painting tips

Printed parts have no casting blocks but thin supports, which you cut off with a sharp knife and then sand the marks down. They are glued with super glue, that is with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting, as the paint will not otherwise hold on the smooth printed surface. The stems tend to be thin, so handle them carefully and support them while gluing until the glue has set. The spikes of the cattails come out well when you set them apart from the green stem with a brown tone.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas with water, for figure painters with scenic bases and for anyone who builds a natural scene in which it is to be clear that the water really is there. Cattails are rewarding in that the viewer recognizes them at once, so they establish the setting of a scene with a single plant.

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
