8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer Plaque 40mm is a diorama plaque with the emblem of a cavalry division. It will mark a base or a display case; on its own it is not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a plaque with a unit emblem whose dimension is given in the name as 40 mm. It contains no kit and no figure - it is an accessory with which you describe a finished scene. You can fit it to the front of a wooden base, to a plinth or to the frame of a display case. Given that it is tied to the scene and not to the real subject, it is not limited by the scale of the models built.
The designation 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer is borne by a cavalry division formed in 1942 out of an earlier cavalry brigade. It served on the Eastern Front and in rear areas, and its course was ended by the encirclement of Budapest at the beginning of 1945. The name of the unit refers to Florian Geyer, a sixteenth-century German knight who went over to the side of the rebelling peasants. The designation is historical, tied to the Second World War, and the plaque serves to describe what is built on the base.
Because a cavalry scene usually has a great deal of the vertical about it - horses, riders, harness - it pays off to fit the plaque low on the front wall of the base, so that it does not compete with the figures. The ground must be level and rid of grease. On dark stained wood the plaque will stand out better than on light earth. Fit it only after the grass growth and the mud are finished, so that no pigment gets carried onto it.
