90mm CRASH LANDING

Figure 90 mm Crash Landing (AK interactive)

This is a collectors' figure 90 mm in size, that is, a piece built and painted on its own, not an accessory for a kit. The name refers to the motif of an emergency landing; please check the particular rendering of the figure and any accessories against the illustration on the packaging. The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

What the size of 90 mm means

With collectors' figures the size is given as a height in millimeters, not as a scale as with kits. The figure of 90 mm describes the height of the figure itself, usually without a base. This format is popular precisely because it offers enough room for modeling a face, materials and the folds of clothing, which would be lost at the sizes common for military figures. At the same time it forgives nothing: every imperfect transition of color is visible.

Building and painting tips

Figures of this kind are cast in resin. First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue, cut off the casting blocks and sand the surfaces down with respiratory protection. It is glued with super glue, and epoxy suits the larger surfaces. Before painting, apply a thin base coat, ideally with an airbrush or a spray can, because an even layer decides the result more than the paints themselves. Skin is built up in thin layers; oil paints give a great deal of room for blending transitions thanks to their slow drying, while acrylics progress faster. At the end, unify the surface with a matte varnish and leave the gloss only where it belongs, that is, in the eyes and on the metal parts.
