This is an add-on set in 1:35 scale, not a model of the weapon. According to the name it holds eighteen pieces of projectiles and cartridge cases of 8.8 cm caliber. The use is broad: a firing position, the cargo bed of a tractor, the open fighting compartment of an armored vehicle, and empty cartridge cases set aside next to the machine.
The 8.8 cm caliber is among the best-known numbers of the Second World War. German weapons of this caliber arose originally for anti-aircraft defense, but their flat trajectory and penetrating power made them a feared weapon against ground targets as well, and so the caliber soon appeared in the armament of heavy armored vehicles too. The rounds were long and heavy, handling them called for a well-drilled crew, and during longer firing empty cartridge cases piled up quickly by the weapon. That is exactly what is most valuable for a modeler: a position without traces of firing looks as if it came from a parade, not from a battlefield.
Separate the cartridge cases and the projectiles in color, do not leave the brass new, and add residues of combustion gases around the mouth. Make the arrangement uneven, some parts propped against the planking and some loose on the ground. The small parts are joined with a glue of short setting time, and it pays to work over a light surface.
