About product

Gallipoli (1915) in 1:35 scale from ICM

Injection-molded plastic figure set from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The package brings two groups of four together, infantrymen of the ANZAC corps and Ottoman infantrymen, so one box gives you both sides of a single scene. It is not a vehicle model or a ready-made piece of terrain but eight separate figures, assembled from parts on sprues just like an ordinary kit. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Gallipoli campaign took place in 1915 on the Gallipoli peninsula by the Dardanelles. The landing of Allied troops, among them the Australian and New Zealand corps known by the abbreviation ANZAC, ran into dogged resistance from the Ottoman army, and the fighting soon turned into a trench stalemate that lasted for months. The uniforms of the two sides differ markedly: Allied soldiers wore khaki tunics and cloth hats or helmets, Ottoman infantry darker uniforms and a characteristic head covering. That contrast is exactly what makes the set a rewarding subject, because a single scene looks varied even without any vehicles.

Building and painting tips

Glue the figures with thin cement for plastic and apply it sparingly, as a run on a face or a hand is very hard to put right. Fill and sand the seams at the shoulders and the waist, otherwise they will stand out once painted. The best approach is to paint the figures separately from the base: the base coat first, then the uniform in two or three shades, and the face and hands last of all. On uniform cloth a thin dark wash into the folds and a fine dry brush on the edges work well. Shade the equipment, the straps and the leather parts separately so that they do not merge with the tunic. Paint the weapons before setting them into the hands.

FAQ

Eight figures: four infantrymen of the ANZAC corps and four Ottoman infantrymen. The set therefore covers both sides of a single scene.

No. The package holds figures on sprues and nothing else. Terrain, a base, glue and paints all have to be bought separately.

They are injection-molded plastic, so they are glued with ordinary modeling cement for plastic and the build is easier than with resin castings.
