An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from Amusing Hobby, part number 48A001. It is a new tooling from 2019: the box holds sprues with parts in sand color, a clear sprue for the cockpit canopy, a sheet of waterslide decals and black-and-white instructions. The decals offer four hypothetical Luftwaffe schemes, because the real subject never reached production. The surface of the parts has engraved panel lines.
The Triebflügel was a 1944 project by the Focke-Wulf company for a vertical take-off interceptor. The machine was to stand on its tail and climb straight up; a three-armed rotor turned around the middle of the fuselage with ramjets at the tips of its arms. The rotor thus served as both the lifting surface and the propulsion, and the aircraft needed no runway, only a small area on which to be raised upright. The project got no further than aerodynamic models and calculations, and a flying prototype never came about. Today it ranks among the best known German designs of the end of the war.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the inside of the fuselage before the fuselage is closed. Leave the rotor free to turn, but glue the seating of the arms in one plane, otherwise the model will look crooked. Because no period photograph exists, the choice of camouflage is up to the builder; a late German scheme over a primer coat looks good. Apply a gloss intermediate coat under the decals so that the edges of the film do not show.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
