A plastic kit of the British fighter-bomber Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib in 1:48 scale from Hasegawa of Japan, manufacturer's part number JT60. The package contains gray and clear plastic frames, rubber parts and a decal sheet. The box is aimed at the late form with a sliding bubble canopy (teardrop canopy) and a wider horizontal tail, that is at the shape the Typhoons wore at the end of their service, not at the early machines with doors at the sides of the cockpit.
The Typhoon was created as a fighter but made its name as a fighter-bomber: with four 20 mm cannons, rockets and bombs it destroyed ground targets over northwestern Europe and ranked among the most feared machines of 1944. It was driven by the sizeable Napier Sabre engine, which gave the aircraft its power and its characteristically deep nose. Early Typhoons had a canopy with side doors and poor rearward view; later a one-piece sliding teardrop canopy replaced it, and the latest machines also received a four-blade propeller and an enlarged horizontal tail.
The teardrop canopy is the main feature here, so handle it with care: mask it before painting and glue it with a cement meant for clear parts, as ordinary cement for plastic would fog it. The British light underside color shows through, so apply it over a primer. Do the invasion stripes on the wings with a mask and add the dirt of grass airfields with dust pigments on the lower fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
