A kit of the Yakovlev Yak-18 in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Mikromir, injection-molded plastic from a short-run mold. The type also carries the code name Max, which was allotted to it by NATO.
The Yak-18 is a two-seat low-wing trainer with tandem seating and a Shvetsov M-11 radial engine. The Yakovlev bureau began design work in the middle of the forties as a successor to the UT-2 trainer, and the type entered service in the second half of the forties. It became the basic school machine of the Soviet Air Force and of the flying clubs and served in a number of other countries. The later Yak-18A version was given retractable nose gear and a more powerful Ivchenko radial, and in China the aircraft was built under license as the Nanchang CJ-5. The manufacturer also adds markings for non-combat and foreign users, among them the Austrian Air Force and the East German army.
The cockpit of a two-seat aircraft is clearly visible under the large glazing, so finish and paint it before you close the fuselage up. Try the short-run parts dry and fill the seams. Glue the glazing on only after painting, ideally with canopy glue, and mask it. The simple schemes of flying club machines tend to be in gloss, so a smooth primer pays off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
