An injection-molded plastic kit of the classic Sikorsky S-55 transport helicopter, known by the American designation H-19 Chickasaw as well as the naval codes HO4S and HAS.7. The model in 1:72 scale measures roughly 17.6 cm once assembled. This is an edition with new decals and a color guide; the decals cover four marking options (among them the USA, Great Britain and France). A figure is not included in the package.
At the turn of the 1940s and 1950s the Sikorsky S-55 was among the first genuinely usable transport helicopters. It is characterized by its bulldog nose, as the piston engine sat forward in the nose and the drive shaft ran diagonally under the flight deck to the main rotor, which freed up a roomy cabin for soldiers or cargo. It proved itself in the Korean War carrying troops and materiel and in the rescue role; in the navy it also served on patrol. The various designations correspond to different operators, the US Navy (HO4S), the Royal Navy (HAS.7) and the army H-19.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and the cabin glazing with clear glue so that it does not fog. It is best to fit and mask the glazed nose and the side windows before spraying. Apply a primer before the paint, and an airbrush suits the painting. Choose the matching shade according to the option you pick: naval dark blue, olive or a striking rescue scheme. Keep the weathering restrained: gentle accenting of the panels, soot at the exhaust and light dust on the landing gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
