Acrylic Color Flesh Rose - a flesh shade for figures

Flesh Rose belongs to the Acrylic Color line of the Spanish brand Green Stuff World, that is among the water-based acrylics for fantasy figures and models for a gaming table. It thins with water or with an acrylic thinner, the brushes clean with water and it does not mix with lacquers or oils. According to the name the shade falls into the flesh group with a pink cast.

Skin is built in layers, not in one stroke

The face is the smallest and at the same time the most closely watched area of a whole figure. The proven method is to build it in three steps. First the base flesh coat in two thin passes, so that the eyes and the mouth stay readable. Then a dark, markedly thinned wash that runs into the eye sockets, under the nose, under the lower lip and into the groove between the lips, because it is precisely these shadows that give a face its expression. Finally the highlight on the forehead, the nose, the cheekbones and the chin, that is on the areas closest to the imagined source of light. A flesh shade with a pink cast also suits the second step of painting as a transitional layer between a dark base and light skin, and it is mixed into the cheeks and the ears, where the skin is flushed with blood.
