Gengis Khaki belongs to the Maxx Formula palette, which the Spanish manufacturer builds on new-generation pigments and aims at both hobby modeling and miniature painting. The warm khaki tone suits canvas shelter halves, webbing, pouches, truck tarpaulins and the lighter camouflage areas of armored vehicles from the southern fronts. Because the paint holds a thin layer, it does not flood the relief of a casting or fine engraving.
Once dry the surface stays smoothly flat and the coverage is strong enough that painting over a dark base usually takes no more than two coats. The shade can be shifted both ways: a drop of light ocher pulls it toward sand, a drop of dark brown pulls it down into shadow.
The whole palette was created mainly for brush work, but after slight thinning with acrylic thinner it passes through an airbrush nozzle without trouble. The dropper insert in the neck releases the paint drop by drop, so exactly as much as is needed can be measured out and the rest of the contents stays closed.
Inside the bottle is a metal mixing ball which, when shaken, stirs the settled pigment back through the whole volume. With paints that a modeler reaches for only now and then, this decides whether the shade stays the same even after a year. The cap seats tightly and keeps the paint from drying out.
In the earth-tone part of the palette this shade follows on from the ocher and olive colors of the same range, so transitions between uniform, equipment and groundwork can be tuned without mixing in other brands.
