Mirage Blue is not a saturated signal blue but rather a light tone softened with gray, of the kind the sky above the horizon has at noon. That is exactly why it suits the lower surfaces of aircraft, a backdrop for a background and the light summer shirts of figures. A blue of this type does not overpower a scene and lets what is the main thing on a model stand out.
Light shades tend to be problematic in that they cover badly. Here the proportion of pigment is high, so two thin coats manage even a dark base and there is no need to reach for a white intermediate coat. It is applied with a brush; after thinning with water or acrylic thinner it passes through an airbrush as well, which is useful on the extensive areas of wings.
The package has seventeen milliliters and a dropper neck, which allows the paint to be measured out in drops. With light tones that has a special value: adding a single drop of a darker color shifts the shade noticeably, and without exact dosing the same mixture cannot be mixed a second time. The metal ball inside takes care of the stirring.
On the underside of a fuselage this tone looks best when a lighter middle of the panels is allowed to show through slightly. It is enough to add a drop of white to the rest of the paint and spray it into the middle of the larger areas, and the boundary is not to be accentuated.
