What happens after application
A pigment holds on a surface mechanically. It catches in the texture and in recesses, but it does not bond with the clear coat the way a paint does. That has two sides. As long as the application is loose you can adjust it even days later, which is a great advantage during a build. At the same time it means that in this state the model cannot be picked up, carried or dusted off without consequences, because the pigment comes away exactly where you touch it.
Modelers deal with this in two ways. Either they leave the model as it is and accept that they will not touch it, which suits display work in a closed cabinet. Or they stabilize the application and accept that this step will change its look a little, usually darkening it or taking away the velvety surface. Whichever you choose, try the procedure first on a sample painted and clear-coated the same way as the model. The behavior differs by base, and once the application is stabilized there is no way back.
For modelers who want to keep the weathering under control even after applying it and are not afraid to work on the model a while longer. Knowing how a pigment behaves on a surface matters more here than the choice of a particular shade.
A loose powder: do not inhale it, work over a surface and out of a draft, and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
