About product

AII Green, an acrylic paint from AK interactive

A bottled water-based acrylic paint from the aircraft line of the AK interactive brand. The AII green designation belongs to the Soviet prewar and wartime aircraft palette; it was an opaque green shade for the upper surfaces. The paint is neither a lacquer nor an enamel: the binder is acrylic, it is thinned with water or with an acrylic thinner of the same type, and the tools are cleaned with water immediately after work.

Chemistry and thinning

Never mix acrylic with lacquer (cellulose) or enamel products. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles to the bottom and badly mixed paint gives uneven coverage. For the airbrush, thin the paint and spray it in thin coats so that the engraved panel lines stay visible. With a brush, apply two thinner coats rather than one heavy one, otherwise brush marks remain.

Use

  • An opaque coat for the upper surfaces of aircraft models in any scale.
  • A base for later shading, fading and the application of a patina.
  • Touch-ups and small fill-ins with a brush after the masks come off.
  • Mixing shades within a single acrylic line.

Who the paint is for

For modelers building Soviet aircraft who want to reach for a ready shade from the period palette. Apply it onto cured primer; on bare glossy plastic acrylic bonds less well and there is a risk that it will peel off during masking. Once the build is finished we recommend sealing the model with a protective varnish compatible with acrylic.

The paint is intended for modeling use. Work in a ventilated room, protect your airways when spraying and keep it out of reach of children.

FAQ

A water-based acrylic. It is thinned with water or with an acrylic thinner of the same type; lacquer thinner would curdle the paint.

Yes. Thinned paint and several thin coats belong in an airbrush; unthinned acrylic clogs the nozzle and floods the detail.

The volume is given on the label of the packaging.

It does, but less well. We recommend laying down primer first, especially if you are going to put masks on the surface.
