AK SYNTHETIC BRUSH – FLAT 4

Flat synthetic AK brush, size 4

A modeling brush with synthetic bristles and a flat end in size 4 from the AK interactive range of brushes. Synthetic bristles are the standard choice for water-thinnable acrylics: they do not soak up as much paint as natural hair, wash out more easily and stand up better to frequent cleaning. Size 4 is medium - large enough that you do not have to keep reloading over an area, and still controllable at edges and corners.

What the flat shape is for

• Base coats on smaller flat areas - a flat stroke leaves fewer marks than a round brush.
• Spreading a glaze or filter evenly over an area.
• Dry-brushing along edges and rivets, where a wide tip spreads the paint into a smooth transition.
• Applying a matte or gloss varnish to smaller sections before decals.
• Working with thicker pastes and textures, where a round brush would lose its shape.

Care of the brush

The bristles last considerably longer when paint does not dry at the ferrule. Wash the brush out right after work, bend it as little as possible and never leave it standing point down in a jar of thinner - the bristles will be permanently deformed. Synthetics take acrylics without trouble; with aggressive solvents expect a shorter life.
