Bolted joints are among the elements that give away a model's scale faster than anything else. In a kit they tend to be suggested only by a shallow relief which almost disappears once the paint is sprayed. Separate parts, by contrast, have a real shape: the head stands above the surface, the nut and the washer are visible beneath it and the light breaks on them as it should. It is precisely on motorcycles, where the frame and the engine are exposed and nothing is hidden under bodywork, that the difference tells at first glance.
The set brings imitations of a bolt with a nut and with a large washer in sizes from 0.5 to 0.7 mm. A larger washer is typical of joints where a softer material is drawn tight or the pressure is spread over a larger area, so it suits frames, covers and brackets.
Work with fine-tipped tweezers and lay the parts out beforehand on a light surface from which they are easy to pick up. An individual part carries well on the moistened tip of a toothpick. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, of which a really minute amount applied on the tip of a wire is enough. If a part needs to be seated accurately, drill a shallow recess at the spot to fix its position. Wipe surplus glue off at once; once dry a flat ridge is left around the head that is removed only with difficulty. Painting is simpler before gluing, on double-sided tape, because once glued a brush reaches a small part less easily.
The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
