A hex 0.8 mm across seated on a bold washer. The first rung of the upper band of the scale and the most frequent choice for joints on covers and brackets.

The step from 0.8 to 0.9 mm is the most common hesitation of the whole scale, because most of the visible joints on a motorcycle model fall into this band. The honest answer runs as follows: on a single part you will not tell the difference, on a pair laid side by side you will. A tenth of a millimeter lies below the resolving power of the eye on a finished build, but in a direct comparison the faces are measured against each other and the lower figure then looks distinctly slimmer.
The conversion gives a guide. Eight tenths corresponds in 1:12 to a head of around ten millimeters, that is to a joint such as holds a cover or a bracket. Nine tenths is aimed at the heavier anchoring of load-bearing parts. If you hesitate, reach for the lower rung, because an oversized head looks coarser on a build than a head slightly smaller.
Working with it is undemanding. Pick the part up with fine-jawed tweezers, clear the surface beneath it of dust and seat it in one movement. Anyone who needs the whole band at once can reach for the combined package, where the rungs from eight to twelve tenths are together and can be compared directly. Such a comparison in the hand tends to be more conclusive than any table.
