A 1.4 mm cone rivet from the brand GAS HANS is intended for the large scales. The box holds a round hundred printed heads, and the mounting hole is drilled at eight tenths of a millimeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
Fourteen tenths of a millimeter is the diameter at which it stops being a matter of texture and starts being a matter of shape. The cone has a distinct side wall, a sharp transition to the surface and an apex that can be brought out on its own. A hundred pieces in the box matches the way a rivet like this is seated: with consideration and one at a time. Unlike the small sizes, it is not about filling an area here but about building a legible pattern that carries the whole impression the surface makes.
In 1:12 scale the head corresponds to roughly seventeen millimeters in reality, in 1:18 to barely twenty-five. That is the size of rivets on ship hulls, on the armor plate of heavy vehicles in large models, on steam engines and traction engines or on anchor fittings. In builds meant for close-up photography it tends to be exactly this detail that gives a picture its sense of scale.
Modelers of the large scales, builders of ships and of historical hardware and authors of scenes where an individual joint is meant to be legible. It also suits close-up photography: tiny molded imitations lose their crispness in a photograph, while a separately glued part in relief keeps it even at high magnification. The goods are the printed heads themselves.
