Fujimi Chibi-Maru Fleet: Battle for Henderson Field 3rd Squadron Kongo and Haruna Set is a twin package of deformed snap-fit models of two Kongo class battleships in comically shortened proportions.

A set of two models from the Chibi-Maru Fleet line of the Japanese company Fujimi. These are not models in any particular scale: the line uses deformed, deliberately shortened and stocky proportions in which the hull is drawn into a cute shape, while the superstructures, the funnels and the gun turrets stay prominent and recognizable. The package contains two Kongo class ships, the Kongo and the Haruna. The parts are molded in color and are joined by snapping together, so the model can be built without glue and without painting. Decals, or stickers for supplementary markings, are included.
Chibi-Maru is a stylized model line that stands between a kit and a collector figure. The aim is not an accurate documentation of the real ship but a legible caricature of it: you recognize the silhouette at first glance from the placement of the turrets, the shape of the funnels and the masts, but the whole is shortened into a compact shape that fits in the palm of your hand. The line is popular as a gift, as a quick project between more demanding builds and as an entry model for complete beginners who do not yet work with glue or with an airbrush.
The build is snap-fit: the parts snap together, so nippers and a short while are all it takes. Sand the gates down once nipped off and touch up the remaining white burr, otherwise it glares on the colored plastic. If you want to take the result further, paint the model anyway: a light primer, a base shade for the deck and the hull and a dark wash into the recesses will make a full-fledged model even out of a part molded in color. Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss surface and use a decal softener, so that they settle into the relief. The set can also be built as a pair on a shared base.
The models are supplied unassembled. Painting is not necessary, as the parts are molded in color and are joined by snapping together. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
