Chibi-Maru Fleet: Battleship Ise with Painted Pedestal for Display is a cute shortened kit of the Japanese battleship Ise from Fujimi, supplied with a painted display pedestal. This is not a scale model — the ship is deliberately distorted into a small, friendly form.

This kit from the popular Chibi-Maru Fleet line of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi captures the battleship Ise in a cute, deliberately shortened form. It is therefore not a conventional scale model — the hull is compressed and the proportions enlarge the characteristic features of the ship, so the result comes across as a likeable caricature of a real battleship. According to the name the package also holds a painted pedestal, thanks to which the finished model will serve straight away as a small decoration for a shelf or a desk.
Ise was a battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy completed during the First World War and markedly modernized in the interwar period. In her classic form she carried the main armament in twin turrets and a massive pagoda superstructure, typical of Japanese battleships. After the carrier losses of 1942 she was later rebuilt into a hybrid carrier battleship; this kit, however, captures her in the form of a classic battleship. Ise ended the war in home waters, where she was put out of action by air attacks in 1945.
Thanks to the small number of small parts the build is quick and even a beginner will manage it. We recommend bonding the parts with a liquid cement for plastic models and painting them with acrylics — the basis is the gray shade of the Imperial Japanese Navy for the hull, and the deck can be set apart with a darker tone. A fine dark wash will bring out the turrets, the superstructures and other raised detail. We recommend that younger modelers build with the help of an adult because of the work with glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
