1:144 BAC Lightning Vacu Canopy is a vacuum-formed clear cockpit canopy for a model of the BAC Lightning supersonic fighter in 1:144 scale, an accessory to a kit rather than a model. Target kit: Revell.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a replacement clear part drawn from thin film over a form. It replaces the canopy from the Revell plastic kit, for which it is cut. Vacuum-formed canopies are used wherever injected plastic is too thick and optically cloudy, and in 1:144 scale that is practically always. The accessory is made by Brengun of the Czech Republic. The aircraft model is not included in the package.
The BAC Lightning was a British supersonic interceptor with a pair of engines stacked one above the other in the fuselage and a sharply cut forward section. Its cockpit is slim and set relatively high, so the shape of the canopy matters for the overall silhouette of a model. Thin vacuum-formed glazing also lets the ejection seat and the instrument panel come out, and they are clearly visible on this type.
Gluing clear parts is a discipline in its own right. Super glue gives off fumes that fog film irreversibly, so reach for white canopy cement, which dries perfectly clear, or for a drop of thin varnish. Leave the joint weighted and let it cure undisturbed; do not press on it. If the film goes matte while you sand the seating edge, it is enough to polish it with fine compound and cover it with gloss varnish, and the clarity will come back. Mask only once the glue has dried perfectly.
The accessory set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base Revell kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
