Chibi-Maru Fleet Hyuga (Aircraft Battleship) with Zuiun is a cute shortened kit of the Japanese carrier battleship Hyuga from Fujimi, completed according to the name with a Zuiun floatplane. This is not a scale model but a deliberately distorted, friendly form of the ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
The hybrid carrier battleship Hyuga as cutely rendered by the Chibi-Maru Fleet line of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. The kit captures the ship in a shortened, deliberately distorted form with enlarged characteristic features — it is therefore not a scale model. According to the name the package also completes the ship with a Zuiun floatplane, which brings out exactly what made Hyuga exceptional: the combination of a battleship and an aircraft carrier.
Hyuga was an Ise-class battleship completed during the First World War. After the losses of Japanese aircraft carriers in 1942 she went through a conversion into a so-called carrier battleship: the aft gun turrets were replaced by a flight deck with a hangar for floatplanes. It was precisely for service from these hybrid ships that the Aichi Zuiun floatplane, capable of reconnaissance and dive bombing alike, was intended. Hyuga ended the war in home waters, where air attacks put her out of action in 1945.
The build is quick and simple. Paint the hull and the superstructures in Imperial Japanese Navy gray, and the flight deck at the stern can be set apart with a darker shade. We recommend assembling and painting the small Zuiun separately and fitting it only at the end. A fine dark wash will nicely bring out the turrets and the pagoda superstructure. For younger builders we recommend the help of an adult because of the glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
