CLEAR YELLOW

The color

A clear yellow from the Real Colors range by AK. Unlike opaque paints, the pigment does not hide the surface underneath but tints it: everything below the coat stays visible, only in a yellow tone. The strength is therefore not set by one coat but by their number, and each further coat makes the shade deeper.

What it is suited to

• On clear parts where the glass or the lens of a light is to be yellowish.
• On metal surfaces, to which it gives a warm tone; over silver it produces a brassy cast.
• On tinting a finished camouflage, where it pulls the shades together into one tone.
• On suggesting traces of leaking oil or fuel, if it is laid only around a panel.

How to work with it

The surface underneath has to be smooth and glossy; on a flat surface a clear coat runs into blotches. Lay it on with an airbrush in several very thin coats and let the surface flash off between them, because a heavy coat cannot be lightened again with clear paints. Shake the bottle before use and thin it with the thinner of the same range, as thinner from another system can curdle the paint. The surest way is a test on an offcut of plastic with the same surface underneath as you have on the model; only on that will you see how many coats the shade needs.

The package holds the paint. Thinner, brushes and an airbrush are not included, unless stated otherwise.
