A gray shade from the acrylic Real Colors range of the AK Interactive brand, carried under the designation RC916 and the number FS 36231. Dark Gull Grey is the established name of the gray that appears in modeling instructions on older American naval finishes combined with light undersurfaces. The FS number refers to the American chart of shades. The container holds 17 ml according to the name.
Most often it carries the upper surfaces of the fuselage, the wings and the tail surfaces, while the underside stays markedly lighter. The boundary between the two colors runs along the sides of the fuselage and tends to be sharp, so it pays to mask with tape and to trace the plan out beforehand. The shade also suits accessories and transport equipment meant to match the finish of the machine. Before decals go on, it pays to give the area a thin gloss coat, as air is held under a decal on a flat surface and the edges silver.
Wash and degrease the surface, so that the coat holds and does not lift with the masking tape. Stir the container thoroughly before use. Apply it in several thin coats with a short pause between them. Paint the lighter underside first and only mask and apply this gray once it has dried. Thin it with the thinner intended for this range of paints, and the manufacturer states the thinning ratio and the airbrush pressure in the instructions.
