About product

Dirty Grey - Quick Gen Color

Dirty Grey is a shade of the Quick Gen Color acrylic range from AK Interactive, that is, a water-thinnable acrylic for figures and gaming models. Unlike a clean neutral gray it is a gray clouded toward an earthy tone, which looks a little used in itself. That suits canvas, tarpaulins, sackcloth, the stone base of a figure and everything that is not meant to look freshly painted.

Drying in an airbrush

When acrylic is sprayed, the drying turns from an advantage into a risk. The paint dries by the evaporation of water, and that goes for the thin film left on the tip of the needle as well. In a moment of interrupted work it hardens there and the spray starts to throw to the sides or to spit. The prevention lies not in thinner thinning but in rhythm: spray continuously, wipe the tip between passes, and during a longer pause pull the needle out and clean it. On the model, on the other hand, quick drying is an ally, as a thin spray can be sanded and painted over within minutes, so it can be layered faster than with solvent paints. Once the work is over, flush the airbrush out at once, as dried acrylic is considerably harder to get out of it than fresh.

Use

  • It is thinned with water or acrylic thinner, never with lacquer thinner.
  • For an airbrush thin it gradually and test on a trial surface.
  • While spraying, clean the tip regularly, as acrylic dries quickly on the needle.
  • Flush the airbrush out straight after use, not once the paint has dried.

Who the paint is for

For players and modelers who paint figures, bases and gaming models and are looking for an earthy rather than a sterile gray. Usable by brush as well as airbrush.

When spraying, use extraction and respiratory protection. Store closed and away from frost.

FAQ

Most often because of dried paint on the tip of the needle. Acrylic dries quickly, so wipe the tip between passes and clean the needle during a longer pause.

There is no universal ratio, as it depends on the pressure and the nozzle. Thin it gradually with water or acrylic thinner and test on a trial surface.

No, it is an opaque acrylic paint. The name describes the shade, not a wash or a pigment.
