The late summer version of an overgrown area from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene is finished growth for dioramas and display-case scenes. Taller grass, weeds and low bushes mix in it, that is the vegetation typical of untended land, field margins, ruins, forest edges and neglected tracks. The material is neither sprinkled nor assembled — it is only trimmed and glued onto a substrate.
The seasonal version changes the coloring. At the end of summer the vegetation is already losing its freshness: the green is darker and more muted, warmer ocher and straw tones of drying stems increase and individual plants begin to yellow. It is precisely this lack of uniformity in color that gives the area the realism that with single-colored static grass is only achieved by laborious toning. The layering of low grass, taller weeds and bushes stays the same as in the early summer version.
Late summer suits scenes where the landscape is meant to read as parched and tired — toward the end of summer campaigns, by wrecks being overgrown, abandoned buildings or embankments along a line. It goes well with a dusty vehicle and with dust pigments, because its color comes from the same warm palette. Glue the growth with PVA or thin white glue, loosen the edges and fill the transition with tufts of grass or turfs. Parts of the growth placed between the parts of a vehicle or into cracks in masonry read as vegetation only now taking the space back.
This is a scenery accessory for building dioramas, not a model kit. The glue, the base board and any further terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
