A set of cast animals for a layout in HO size: seven dogs from purebred breeds to street mongrels, three cats and, with them, a trash can and a fire hydrant.
Responsibility details are not available.
Seven dogs and three cats make up the core of this set. Among the dogs the manufacturer distinguishes purebred breeds and indeterminate mongrels from the outskirts, and among the cats two domestic ones and one stray. It is the stray that holds the scene together, because two pieces of street furniture belong to the set as well: a trash can and a fire hydrant.
Animals tend to be an inconspicuous but indispensable detail on a model railroad. A dog by a kennel, a cat lying in wait by the garbage or a pack running about between fences gives a yard life even where another human figure would feel crowded. The hydrant also serves as an anchor point for size: by it you can tell how high the curb is and how wide the sidewalk behind it.
A ratio of 1:87 corresponds to HO size, which is the most widespread model railroad size in Europe as well as in North America. The castings therefore suit the great majority of houses, cars and vehicles that stand on such a layout.
The placing is rewarding: the backs of apartment buildings, the open area behind a station building, the area around a dump or simply the corner of a street where the trash cans are emptied. A small animal in motion catches the attention sooner than a large object, so a sensibly spread pack does more for a scene than another parked car.
A simple rule helps with placing them: animals belong lower than people. A dog at the feet of a standing figure, a cat on a step or on a low wall and a pack divided into two groups instead of one row. The result then reads not as a display case but as a piece of a city where something is going on outside the main action.
