Tiger I, mid production - a 1:35 kit from RYE FIELD MODEL with a full interior, clear (transparent) hull and turret parts and a 2-in-1 build: either an ordinary closed model or a showcase version through which the interior is visible.

A kit of the Tiger I of mid production in 1:35 scale from RYE FIELD MODEL - a manufacturer that made its name precisely with kits with a full interior. And this one means it seriously: the package holds the complete inside of the machine, from the engine compartment through the transmission to the fighting compartment with the gun, the breech and the ammunition stowage. Besides plastic the kit contains photo-etched sheet, 3D-printed parts and workable tracks of individual links, which move and can be given a natural sag. What 2-in-1 means: you can build either an ordinary, fully closed model or a variant with clear (transparent) hull and turret parts - and those are exactly the clear parts: they are not periscopes or lights, but transparent walls through which the interior you have built is visible. It is a striking display solution that makes the work on the inside worthwhile. Let us be honest, though: a full interior means that you are building essentially two models in one - the time it takes is an order higher than with an ordinary kit and the painting has to be planned in blocks, in parts, as you go.
The Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. E, Tiger I, was a German heavy tank with an 8.8 cm KwK 36 gun and strong frontal armor which from 1942 wrote a legend - and at the same time was expensive, complicated and prone to breakdowns. Mid production, roughly from the middle of 1943 to the beginning of 1944, differs from the early one above all in the new cast cupola with vision blocks instead of the earlier cylindrical cupola with vision slits, one front headlight instead of two and a coating of Zimmerit. It still has road wheels with rubber tires; in late production those were replaced by wheels with internal springing and steel tires. The Feifel air filters, typical of the early machines, stopped being fitted during 1943. It is precisely this middle form that is one of the most rewarding for modelers - it is the Tiger in its most typical variant from the fighting of 1943 and 1944.
The key is the order: paint, weather and fit the interior before you close the hull and the turret - afterwards you will no longer get inside. Build and paint in subassemblies (engine compartment, transmission, fighting compartment, gun) and keep checking that the parts will go together. Never bond the clear parts with super glue - its fumes will fog them irreversibly; use a glue intended for clear plastic, or clear varnish applied at single points. You will remove fingerprints and scratches from the clear parts by sanding with fine abrasive sponges and polishing. Assemble the workable tracks in longer sections and let them set properly, and only then fit them with a natural sag. Outside: primer, Dunkelgelb as the base, camouflage with an airbrush, a wash and pigments; inside: a light cream or white on the walls of the fighting compartment, metallic highlights, a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
