A foliage mat from the German maker HEKI of a size of twenty-eight by fourteen centimeters. The thin fabric with foliage flakes glued on can be stretched and shaped, so a tree crown, a dense bush and growth on a wall can all come from it. Medium green is the most universal shade of the whole line, because it matches leaf in full season, that is the way most deciduous trees look from June to September.
Tear a piece off and stretch it until irregular gaps come about in it. The opened out mat is then laid on the tree armature and fixed with drops of cyanoacrylate or white glue. Because this shade is universal, it proves useful to use it as a base and only then to scatter lighter flakes on from above and darker ones into the depth of the crown. The difference between the sunlit and the shaded side is the first thing the eye notices on a model tree.
