HEKI Weeping Willow 20 cm

A finished model tree from the German maker HEKI, twenty centimeters tall. A weeping willow has a crown whose branches hang straight down to the ground, so at first glance it differs from every other tree on the layout. At a height of twenty centimeters this is already a mature piece, suited as a landmark on its own by water rather than as part of a group. The shape also suggests where the tree belongs: a willow grows by water and on a model it tends to become a reliable marker of a bank.

How to work with the tree

The tree is pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With a mature piece make the hole deeper and fix the trunk with a drop of glue. Set the willow so that the crown leans over the water surface, as that is typical of this tree and gives the scene movement. Spread the cascading branches carefully downward with your fingers after unpacking. Add taller grass and reeds under the tree, as a mown lawn does not belong with a willow.
