A fine green granulate from which greenery over an area is built on a diorama and a layout. The package holds 200 milliliters of material in a light green shade. The pale tone corresponds to fresh spring leaves, to new grass after rain and to places the sun shines on, so it comes into its own best as a top layer. The designation neutral points to the fact that the fine grain is not tied to one scale and comes into its own just as well on an H0 layout as in a 1:35 diorama.
Start the growth with a darker green and add the pale shade only at the end, on the tops of bushes, on the crests of field margins and on open areas out of the shade of trees. It is this difference between shade and light that makes greenery believable; a uniform area of one tone always reads flat. Sprinkle from a height of a few centimeters through a sieve, so that the material lands unevenly, and let the lower layer show through in places.
Coat the area with glue, most often white PVA thinned with water, and sprinkle it straight afterwards while the glue is still damp. After it has dried thoroughly, tilt the base, tap the material that has not caught onto paper and keep it for further use. Work over a large sheet of paper or over a tray, as fine granulate otherwise runs all over the table. You will manage the color fine-tuning by dusting pigment on or with a very light hint of paint from a considerable distance.
