Forming foil from the Form it range, a sheet measuring 40 x 80 cm, that is 0.32 square meters. The surface carries a granite structure, so unlike the smooth version you do not have to model the rock afterwards. You lay the foil on a load-bearing framework, shape a face or a slope by hand and then simply paint the surface.
On a rock face above a line, in a cutting, on a retaining wall at a station, on the wall of a quarry and on the bank of a stream. A granite surface has rough, irregular faces with sharp edges, so it fits mountain and foothill scenery well. In larger scales it suits smaller sections rather than whole areas, because the size of the structure is fixed and cannot be adjusted.
Prepare the rough shape of the terrain in advance, so that the foil has something to rest on. Cut the overlaps off and run the joints between the individual pieces where a crack or a bedding boundary would run in real rock, that is never straight across a whole face. Begin the painting with a paler base tone over the whole area; then apply a thin dark glaze which runs into the crevices and draws out the structure, and finally go over the edges with a dry brush and a pale shade. Add fine scree at the foot of the face, so that the rock does not end in mid-air.
The package holds foil of the size given. A load-bearing framework, a base, the paints, scatter and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
