A decal sheet in 1:72 scale aimed at the SF-260D trainers in Turkish service. It is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model.

The real subject

The SF-260 is a single-engine propeller trainer of Italian origin, recognizable at first sight by its slim fuselage and the tanks on its wingtips. Machines of this type serve for basic and continuation training and their finish tends to be striking: training aircraft are deliberately not camouflaged, but on the contrary are meant to be clearly visible. The D version is among the later forms of the range. The sheet is devoted to machines in Turkish service; you will find the particular number of finishes offered and their breakdown in the instructions with the sheet.

How the decals are applied

• Decals belong on a smooth gloss clear coat; on a matte surface a whitish veil forms under them.
• Cut them out as close to the printed area as you can and soak them in lukewarm water for only a few seconds.
• Let a decal rest on paper until it can be slid, and only then move it onto the model.
• Squeeze the water out from under the decal with a soft cloth, from the center toward the edges.
• Across raised detail use decal softener; the decal draws onto the surface and no step is left on it.
• Once dry, go over everything with a clear varnish, which hides the edges of the sheet.

For modelers who build trainers in 1:72 scale and are looking for less usual users than the big air forces. Working with the sheet calls only for having mastered the applying of decals, with no intervention in the structure of the model.
